The Golden Era of the Automobile Tour

58.50

At the turn of the last century, on a rainy June night in Detroit, a young engineer from the Edison Illuminating Company thundered down Bagley Boulevard in his self-built Quadricycle, a gasoline-powered horseless carriage, his wife and infant son at his side. From Henry Ford's first ride through the next decade, Detroit brands quickly set themselves apart with superior designs and top engineering.

By 1915, 13 out of the world’s 15 most popular car brands were in Detroit. The Motor City was born. Detroit car brands provided a car for any budget and any style; building fast, luxurious, dependable, and inexpensive cars that “put America on wheels.” From automotive legends like Horace and John Dodge, Ransom E. Olds, and Billy Durant to the lesser known mechanical geniuses, seamstresses, and assembly line muscle who added horsepower and designed dream cars - the legacy of Detroit’s golden automotive era is full of stories.

Together with your guides, you’ll travel to the factories, workshops, and homes of these titans of industry. You’ll enjoy private behind-the-scenes tours and get glimpses into the rarely seen spaces that incubated our automotive heritage. The tour will traverse the city exploring the path taken by Detroit’s first horseless carriage, the first stretch of paved road in the U.S., the factory where tens of thousands of workers made the assembly line a success, and so much more. We will follow the birth of the automobile, the merger of the great brands, the romances and scandals, achievements and honors, and lastly stop to pay our respects to the men and women themselves at their final resting places. You’ll even be treated to a light meal (it ain't vegetarian. it can't be made vegetarian. we ain't sorry about it.), famous among Ford factory workers -still cooked and served in the same way at the same location. We promise a nonstop day of surprises, stories, adventure, and history on the Golden Automotive Era Tour.
