Wild Women Walking
Wild Women Walking
Antoine de la Mothe Sieur de Cadillac may have founded Detroit, but without his wife the city might as well have sunk into the river (or strait—but that’s a different topic). We’ve had more than our fair share of heroines in this town—and maybe a villainess or five. The story of the Motor City is full of remarkable women doing (mostly) remarkable things.
Adventurers and artists, leaders in civil rights and labor movements, the wealthy and the worker—Detroit has been home to women of extraordinary achievement. Join us for an excursion by foot and rail through Downtown Detroit and get up close and personal with the history of the ladies of Detroit.
This tour is the little cousin of our Wild Women of Detroit Bus Tour, and we’re proud to say it covers many topics that simply don’t work on the bus. It gets the blood flowing and helps craft a deeper appreciation of Detroit—and the women who called it home.
THE DETAILS:
This tour departs from the exterior of the Cadillac Center People Mover Station., at 110 Gratiot, in Detroit. Your guide will be wearing a grey, Detroit History Tours shirt, or if its a touch chilly, a blue Detroit History hoody.
This tour travels one way, at a leisurely pace, and is just shy of a mile and a half in distance. This tour concludes at Hart Plaza. At that time, guests are invited to return to their vehicles on their own (it’s a well-lit, safe, easy, straight shot down Woodward Ave. back to the starting location of the tour) or enjoy one of the many fabulous bars and restaurants dotting the route.
