Passed by the United States Congress on June 4th, 1919, and ratified on August 18th, 1920, the 19th amendment granted women the right to vote. In celebration of the 103rd anniversary of the 19th Amendment, join Detroit History Tours for an unforgettable evening of empowerment, history, and drinking booze out of tea cups. We’re calling it The Suffragette Shindig, and it’s going to be a blast from the voting past.

Embark on a journey through time as we honor the courageous suffragettes of Detroit. Your guide, and Detroit History Tours owner, Bailey Sisoy-Moore, will regale you with captivating tales of the past, detailing the remarkable lives of four Michigan's suffragettes in route to four woman- owned establishments. At each venue we visit, a unique cocktail inspired by a specific suffragette will be specially prepared for you, inclusive of your ticket price.

Arriving at each bar, you'll be greeted by the passionate female owner who has crafted a unique cocktail paying homage to a specific suffragette. Each of the delectable libations, skillfully prepared with locally sourced ingredients and a dash of history are offered with or without alcohol (when adding tickets to your cart, a form will pop up, please select “non-alcoholic” or “alcoholic” at this time, the ticket price is the same for either selection). Throughout the evening, our expert guide infuses the tour with her deep knowledge and infectious enthusiasm. Discover the untold stories behind each sip, unravel the secrets of mixology, and engage in lively celebration of the legacy of the suffragette movement.

Our journey concludes at a woman owned restaurant favorite, for a dinner among friends. Helmed by one of the great ladies of Detroit’s service industry, you’ll be treated to lovingly prepared dishes, served buffet style. (Options for vegetarians will be plentiful however vegans can not be accommodated. If you’re a picky eater, have food allergies, or don’t like surprises, this tour is not a good fit for you.)

Join us as we toast the suffragettes who paved the way for women's rights, all while enjoying the unique creations of the city's finest woman-owned bars and restaurants.

She is an author, humorist, workaholic, Faygo-loving tour guide from the great City of Detroit. A lover of city ephemera, her most prized possessions include her antique books about Detroit penned by Clarence M. Burton himself, her Library of Congress readers card, her collection of vintage jewelry, and signed pay stubs of Edsel Ford. A frequent essay contributor, her most recent work can be seen in The Detroit Neighborhood Guide Book. Her first children’s book, Rosie A Detroit Herstory, hit shelves in the fall of 2018 from Wayne State Press and is receiving rave reviews. She is meticulous in her research and passionate about historical accuracy, yet she takes great joy in presenting history in the most exciting, playful, and accessible way possible. A passionate connoisseur of all things delicious, she adamantly argues the health benefits of coney dogs and Vernors floats.
